Physical Therapy Treatments & Techniques

During your first visit, our physical therapist will talk with you about your foot and ankle pain, assess any swelling, and perform a physical evaluation of your gait, strength, flexibility and range of motion in order to identify areas that need attention or monitoring. We’ll work with you to set functional, achievable goals for your treatment, and teach you specific foot and ankle exercises you can start performing at home.

Follow-up treatment sessions will typically include 5-10 minutes of low impact activity, like walking or riding a stationary bike, followed by targeted stretching and strengthening exercises for your foot and ankle, as well as exercises to support your hips and knees. Depending on your condition, we may also use heat and cold modalities, hands-on manual therapy and massage, ultrasound therapy or electrical stimulation, and suggest ankle bracing or orthopedic shoe inserts.
