Jaw Pain? Physical Therapy Is A Good Place To Be!
Dr. Andrew J Gaetano, PT is the area’s leading Physical Therapist for TMD Jaw Pain and dysfunction in the NY Capital Region.
Temporomandibular joint disorder, or dysfunction, (TMD) is a common condition that limits the natural functions of the jaw, such as opening the mouth and chewing. It currently affects more than 10 million people in the United States. It is sometimes referred to as simply “TMJ,” which represents the name of the joint itself.
It is no surprise there has been a large increase in those with jaw pain, difficulty with mouth opening, and other jaw dysfunction since the start of the pandemic. More time in front of screens, long term use of masks and the physical manifestations of stress into improper oral habits may be driving the surge in those with jaw pain. Luckily, there are conservative options to help those dealing with these problems. Physical therapy may not often be on the mind of those with jaw pain, but it may be the ticket to normal, pain-free jaw use.
In physical therapy, once we’re able to detect the mechanical cause of your particular problem, we are able to offer a well-rounded treatment approach that may consist of manual techniques, specific exercises, and advice on changing or improving habits.
